It’s rare to see two dirty hits on a quarterback on the same play, but the Atlanta Falcons pulled it off.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater went down due to an injury, and the Falcons can be expecting a couple of hefty fines in upcoming days.
First, defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. kicked Bridgewater as he was beginning to move up in the pocket and scramble on a third down. He kicked Bridgewater right in his knees, one of which was seriously injured years ago with the Minnesota Vikings.
As Bridgewater was falling down after being tripped, defensive end Charles Harris came in with an even dirtier hit. Harris hit Bridgewater in the back of the head with a forearm as Bridgewater went to the turf. It was unnecessary head hunting.
Both plays drew penalties. Fowler got a tripping penalty. Harris got an unnecessary roughness and was ejected.
P.J. Walker came in for Bridgewater, one of the league’s best stories after his comeback from that knee injury. Bridgewater later returned in the fourth quarter.
It won’t matter much to Bridgewater, but the two Falcons defenders will likely be hearing from the league in the next few days.
