Tanzania Ferry Disaster Death Toll Reaches 136

Reuters has reported that rescuers in Tanzania have retrieved at least 136 bodies one day after a ferry sank on Lake Victoria, but scores more are still missing. The ferry capsized just a few meters from the dock. Initial reports suggested that the ferry was carrying more than 300 people. State-owned media reported on its website on Friday that top officials of the Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority would be regarding the accident. Preliminary investigations found that the ferry was carrying more passengers than its capacity permitted.
