NJ beach evacuated after bomb threat

BRIGANTINE, N.J. (CBS) — Brigantine Police evacuated Cove Beach because of a bomb threat on Saturday, according to officials. People were told to evacuate and avoid the area and K-9s were brought in to search the area.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Brigantine Police Department deemed the beach as safe and reopened.

This reopening comes after badge checkers found a note earlier in the day stating there was an IED device buried in the sand on the beach.

The drive-on beach is located at the south end of Brigantine off of Lagoon Boulevard.

Police also recorded license plate numbers of vehicles as they left the beach.
