Live-Action DC Teen Titans Series Casts Its Robin
Brenton Thwaites previously starred in Pirates of the Caribbean 5.
BY JONATHON DORNBUSH The newest take on the Teen Titans has found its Robin, as Brenton Thwaites has been cast in the role of Dick Grayson in DC’s upcoming Titans series.
Thwaites joins a cast that already includes Anna Diop as Starfire and Teagan Croft as Raven. One of several characters to take up the Robin mantle in DC lore, Grayson’s parents were murdered during a circus act, and Bruce Wayne became the orphaned boy’s legal guardian. He eventually struck off on his own after working alongside Batman, serving as a leader of the Titans in the comics and the DC animated series.
The actor previously starred in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and also appeared in The Giver and Maleficent.
“Dick Grayson is one of the most important and iconic heroes in the DC universe, and it wasn’t easy to find him but we have. Brenton has the emotional depth, heart, danger and physical presence of Batman’s former protege and the Titans’ future leader. We’re extremely lucky he’s chosen to bring his talents to this project and this character,” Titans executive producer Geoff Johns said in a statement.
Titans is set to air on DC’s upcoming digital streaming service with a premiere planned for 2018. For more on Titans, read up on how the series could unite the Arrowverse and DC Extended Universe.
