Avengers 3 Gets a New (But Familiar) Title

Dropping the “Part 1.”

After the Russo brothers confirmed plans to change the names for Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Part 2 back in May, Disney has announced the official title for its third Avengers film.

According to a schedule change from the company (via TheWrap), the first part will be called Avengers: Infinity War, with “Part 1” removed from the title. Meanwhile, Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 has been tentatively branded as an “Untitled Avengers” film.

News of the name change doesn’t come as a surprise. Anthony Russo previously said that labeling them Part 1 and Part 2 “is misleading,” with Joe Russo noting the films “are two very different movies” and new title announcements were only a matter of time.

Marvel’s The Avengers: Infinity War will open in theaters on May 4, 2018, while the followup is set for a May 3, 2019 debut. Thanos actor Josh Brolin said he was “blown away” by Infinity War’s story, noting it’s basically Thanos vs. everyone else in the film.
