The parents of a 1-year-old boy found dead Sunday morning in a downtown New Orleans hotel room are now under arrest in the child’s death investigation, according to police.
The NOPD says the boy was found unresponsive in a hotel room at the Harrah’s New Orleans Hotel in the 200 block of Poydras Street about 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.
As The Times Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports, the NOPD arrested Shelbie Pinson, 32, and Billy Withers, 27, along with another relative James Watkins, 20 although, they were not booked with the child’s death.
According to the newspaper, criminal court documents show NOPD investigators booked the boy’s parents with child cruelty after they found injuries to the dead child’s 3-year-old brother.
They say the brother was also in the room at the time his infant brother died. As of now, police had not booked anyone in connection with the boy’s death until an actual cause of death is determined, the newspaper reports.
Police say the two boys were in the care of Pinson, Withers, and Watkins at the hotel room they checked in to on Saturday.
Pinson is also booked with a count of possession of drug paraphernalia for a glass pipe found after police searched their hotel room.
